I got out with Sam Cook a couple of weeks ago for some smallmouth bass fly fishing on the St. Louis River.  It came out in the Duluth News Tribune last Sunday 7/18/10.  Check it out.  It's not the full article and pics as in the paper, but will scan that it as well.  Eventually I'll get around to giving some more fishing updates on the blog, until then go test those flies on some fish!

It's been awhile since I've posted on my blog.  So here it goes.

The Namekagon River trout fishing was great this year.  With the warm weather we had in March and April, it made for some fantastic days to be on the water.  The early stone fly hatch came and went in a heartbeat, but I was able to squeeze some good nymph and dry fly action during the hatch.  Some really good sized browns were caught this season.  The Hendrickson made a very early appearance this year, in fact I would say at least 2-3 weeks early.  It was a surprise and treat at the same time!  Check out the Trout Pictures for some trout pics on the Nam.

Just want to say thanks to John Fehnel, Brian Porter, Mike Kennedy and Mike Klimas for helping out at the booth this year.  We all met a lot of people, all while tying our favorite flies.  I think it went very well.  We had lots of sign ups for  people interested in fly casting classes and fly tying classes.  The booth helped spread the word for Fly Casting for Recovery and Project Healing Waters.  The casting seminars went very well and hopefully those that attened walked away with some lessen learned.

A big thanks goes out to Rob at Artistic Anglers who donated the musky mount (with a fly in it's mouth) for the booth.  Thanks!  www.artisticanglers.com

All in all, a very well  organized event.  It definately got the juices flowing for this upcoming fishing season.

Spring is in the air in Northern Minnesota.  Robins are everywhere, the lake ice is melting fast and most of all warmer temps.  Getting new gear, cleaning up the old and stocking up on flies.  Area lakes are opening up for some fantastic panfish actions on the fly rod.  Great time to introduce someone or start learning how to fly fish.

I recieved my new Winston BIIMX 10wt in, what a beauty.  Can't wait to pair it up with my Nautilus 10 CCF and some Rio Stiper line.  Watch out muskies!
