It's been awhile since I've posted on my blog.  So here it goes.

The Namekagon River trout fishing was great this year.  With the warm weather we had in March and April, it made for some fantastic days to be on the water.  The early stone fly hatch came and went in a heartbeat, but I was able to squeeze some good nymph and dry fly action during the hatch.  Some really good sized browns were caught this season.  The Hendrickson made a very early appearance this year, in fact I would say at least 2-3 weeks early.  It was a surprise and treat at the same time!  Check out the Trout Pictures for some trout pics on the Nam.

The Brule River is up to it's usual spring.  Brook trout always willing to take a fly they can fit into their mouths and then some.  The resident browns and rainbows are always hungry as the hatch activity and bug action heats up during the summer.  Nothing beats doing a lazy canoe float down the Brule River, can't get enough of it.

The smallmouth action on Chequamegon Bay is on fire!  Many big bronze backs were caught this year, with many more to come.  The spawn got a nice jumpstart with the warm spring weather we've had lately.  The shallow water bite should continue for the next 2-3 weeks.  But don't overlook the pre spawn fish that haven't spawned and the agressive post-spawn feeding fish, those are always fun to catch.  The summer will have them dispersed around the bay, deep and shallow.

The pike fishing has really begun to pick up locally as the big pike are still up shallow and starting to eat good.  The big fish know that the warm water is just around the corner and will start vacating the shallow haunts for the cool deep water.  The smallmouth bass fishing on the St. Louis River opens up this Saturday and you'll know where I'll be, can't wait!

Get out and throw the fat line.  We'll see you on the water.

Tight lines!
